The Praedium Group (Praedium), a national real estate investment firm, announced it has signed the United Nations supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). Formed in 2006, PRI is an independent agency that is widely considered to be the leading proponent of responsible investment. Praedium’s commitment to PRI attests to the firm’s focus on integrating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations into its investment philosophy.

PRI is a global network of asset managers, owners and service providers working together to put responsible investment into practice. The principles provide a framework for integrating ESG considerations into investment decision-making and ownership practices.

“We are delighted to welcome The Praedium Group on board as a PRI signatory,” commented David Atkin, CEO of the PRI. “It is great to see their commitment to incorporating sustainable investment practices into its business processes, and we look forward to working together in the future and continuing to drive important responsible investment considerations.”

As a UNPRI signatory, Praedium is dedicated to implementing responsible investment through six key principles.

The six key principles are:
1. We will incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes.
2. We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices.
3. We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest.
4. We will promote acceptance and implementation of the principles within the investment industry.
5. We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the principles.
6. We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the principles.

“We are proud to be a PRI signatory and join the global community of investors and managers that believe incorporating ESG principles into our investment process is an important part of our business,” said Russ Appel, Praedium’s Founding Principal. “We believe that incorporating sustainable practices into our business can reduce risk and promote positive results for our investors, and we look forward to seeing how the ever-evolving ESG landscape continues to grow in importance over the coming years.”

Praedium’s commitment to the UNPRI is complementary to their firm wide ESG efforts, which the ESG Committee leads. The ESG Committee is responsible for reviewing in-place practices and suggesting opportunities to implement new systems that help the firm measure and assess ESG efforts.

“Our ESG Committee has guided the firm’s roll out of analyses that measure ESG attributes at the time of acquisition and also developed a supplemental due diligence program that assesses risks associated with climate change on an asset-specific level,” said Shelly Baldwin, Head of Client Development and ESG Officer. “Our commitment to PRI additionally indicates that we recognize there is value in investing with ESG issues in mind, and we look forward to joining the global network of owners that support PRI’s six key principles.”
